Site Reliability Engineer (Infrastructure)

Join our collaborative and solutions-oriented IT Operations team as a Site Reliability Engineer (Infrastructure)!

At Bambora we are on a mission to create the most customer focused payments experience. Join our Oddly Human team in Victoria, BC, as a Site Reliability Engineer (Infrastructure), where you will work with team of talented individuals responsible for the administration and maintenance of the foundation of our online payment service. In addition to ensuring 24/7 availability of the platform, this team is also responsible for empowering other Bambora teams by providing them with the tools to continuously test, deploy, observe, and scale services in a PCI and SOC compliant environment.

You’ll be working with an emerging Infrastructure team, responsible for maintaining our existing remote datacentre-based infrastructure while also actively building and migrating workloads to our future datacentres. Our vision for this future is “modern infrastructure powered by Datacentre as Code”.

What you will do: 

  • You’ll handle the administration of server hardware, networks, and virtualization with VMware.
  • Design and implement improvements to our multi-region, multi-datacentre platform.
  • You’ll be responsible for the networking in software and appliances (firewalls, routers, VPN, enterprise storage).
  • You’ll coordinate with our partners to establish and maintain MPLS and VPN tunnels.
  • This position will participate in 24/7 coverage on-call rotation, which is mandatory.
  • You’ll work alongside Agile operations and software development teams, Be-ing Collaborative in true Bambora fashion.

In order to be successful as a Site Reliability Engineer (Infrastructure) on our IT Operations team, you will have, or be on your way to developing and gaining:

  • A post-secondary degree or diploma in an information technology related discipline, or equivalent job experience.
  • 3-5 years of experience managing a datacentre or a large physical server environment. You may have had job titles such as Hardware, Network or Infrastructure Administrator in the past, or similar.
  • You’ll need to have dealt with outages, conflicting priorities, capacity planning in an efficient and collaborative way.  
  • You’ll be someone who is able to make things happen against odds – someone who can balance “impossible” requests and set realistic expectations.
  • Ideally, you’ll have worked with vendors for quotes and will have experience escalating support requests as required.
  • You’ll be a true team player; someone who is able to maintain a calm demeanour when things get hectic (not gunna lie, they get hectic sometimes!).
  • You understand the past – you know that old technology still has a role, but that the future is here – for us that means, containerization, automation, and enabling our internal customers.  
  • Fluency in English (written and oral) is a must for this role.  

It would be great if you had experience with:

  • Administration of Microsoft Windows Server and IIS.
  • Experience with monitoring and alerting technologies.
  • Experience with tools such as Terraform, Ansible, and Git.
  • Administration and automation of Linux-based servers.
  • Experience with regulated environments and audits (PCI, SOC).
  • Knowledge of high-availability relational databases using SQL Server or PostgreSQL.
  • CCNA or equivalent experience.
