Operations Engineer, North America Payments

Bambora North America’s mission-critical payments service processes over 30% of all e-commerce transactions in Canada, in addition to payments in the USA, Great Britain and Europe for over 35,000 customers.

We are seeking an experienced Operations Engineer to join a team of talented individuals responsible for the reliability and automation of our payment services hybrid-cloud infrastructure. In addition to ensuring 24/7 availability of the platform, your team is also responsible for empowering Bambora’s product development teams by providing them with the tools to continuously test, deploy, observe, and scale services in a PCI and SOC compliant environment.

Since we make use of a broad range of technologies to build and operate services, the ideal candidate will have prior experience in an IT operations or system administration role and have a considerable breadth of technical knowledge.

 Key Capabilities

  • Administration and automation of Windows-based servers
  • Ability to participate in 24/7 coverage on-call rotation (currently 1 week shifts)
  • Administration of relational databases such as SQL Server or PostgreSQL
  • Monitoring and alerting of operating system resources and application services
  • On-premise or co-located virtualization with VMware
  • Networking in software and appliances (firewalls, routers, VPN, storage)
  • Agile and DevOps principles and practices

 Nice to have

  • Experience with infrastructure as code using tools such as Terraform, Ansible, and Git
  • Administration and automation of Linux-based servers
  • Experience with regulated environments and audits (PCI, SOC)
  • Knowledge of distributed system design and practices 
  • Experience with public cloud providers

Qualifications Required

  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in Computer Science or a related discipline, or equivalent job experience
  • Fluency in English (written and oral)
  • Legal entitlement to work in Canada

This position requires the ability to work on-site at Bambora's Victoria, Canada office. If you don't currently reside in the Greater Victoria area, as part of your application please tell us why you'd like to relocate and include a realistic timeframe.
