Manager, IT Operations

Bambora North America’s mission-critical payments service processes over 30% of all e-commerce transactions in Canada, in addition to payments in the USA, Great Britain and Europe, for over 35,000 customers.

We are seeking a hands-on Manager, IT Operations to lead a team of talented individuals responsible for the reliability and automation of our payment services hybrid-cloud infrastructure. In addition to ensuring 24/7 availability of the platform, your team is also responsible for empowering Bambora’s feature development teams by providing them with the tools to continuously test, deploy, observe, and scale services in a secure and compliant environment.

This is a hands-on role, and since we make use of a broad range of technologies to build and operate services, the ideal candidate will have senior-level experience in an IT operations role and have a considerable breadth of technical knowledge.  They will also have experience leading a small team and have previously been a champion of the adoption of DevSecOps practices and principles.

Key Capabilities

  • Ability to mentor, coach, motivate and evaluate a team of technology professionals
  • Experience with:
    • Administration and automation of Windows and/or Linux-based servers
    • Relational databases such as SQL Server or PostgreSQL
    • Monitoring and alerting
    • Public cloud and on-premise virtualization and/or containerization
    • Networking in software and appliances (firewalls, routers, VPN, storage)
    • Infrastructure as code using tools such as Terraform, Ansible, and Git
    • Agile and DevSecOps principles and practices

Nice To Have

  • Experience with technologies used for message queues, caching, and authentication
  • Experience with regulated environments and audits (PCI, SOC, GDPR)
  • Knowledge of distributed service design and practices

Qualifications Required

  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in Computer Science or a related discipline, or equivalent job experience
  • Fluency in English (written and oral)

What You'll Do

  • Manage, mentor, coach, motivate and evaluate a team of system administrators, DBAs, and DevOps engineers
  • Lead recruitment activities for your team, and participate in recruitment activities for the greater organization
  • Develop department-level strategic plans and annual budgets
  • Design, implement, test, document, maintain, and operate highly-available, scalable, and secure infrastructure and platforms for distributed software applications
  • Responsible for ensuring Agile and DevSecOps principles and good practices are followed
  • Responsible for collaborating with the development and product teams to maintain a relevant and achievable roadmap
  • Responsible for the overall functionality, performance, security, scalability, reliability, observability, implementation schedules, and system architecture of the software developed by your team
  • Responsible for the overall achievement and reporting on your team’s key performance indicators (KPIs)
  • Responsible for scheduling and managing on-call rotation for your team
  • Represent the technology operations team to external customers and partners
  • Provide recommendations for improving our technology and DevSecOps processes
  • Stay current with trends, techniques, and technology
  • Other duties as assigned
